This blue commemorative plaque records: Susan Mary Auld Pioneering Naval Architect Born here, 10th January 1915 First female graduate of Naval Architecture from Durham University. First woman admitted as a student to the North East Coast Institution of Engineers and Shipbuilders. Helped to design HMS Anson, HMS Albion, the Leda and the D-Day landing vessels. Died 2002 Recorded plaque organisation: North Tyneside Council.
Susan Mary Auld was a pioneering naval architect, born in 1915; she became the first female graduate of Naval Architecture from Durham University and contributed to the design of several significant naval vessels including HMS Anson and D-Day landing craft.
