Broadstone Castle was a stone tower built in the 15th century for John de Liddel, and it stood until about 1850 when its stones were pulled down to build Broadstonehall Farm. The Montgomery family lived there for generations, including Sir Hugh Montgomerie, who was born at Broadstone in 1560 and later entertained Con O'Neill, Lord of the Claneboys, before helping him obtain a pardon. The castle is gone now, but the Broadstone Crags remain above the old lane, holding the shape of a place that once commanded a barony, a mill, and a table where exiled lords were fed.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Broadstone Castle as Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
