Castle Knowe rises beside the old Kilruskin road as a rounded mound that may have watched travellers, hosted local disputes under its oak, or simply gathered soil through centuries of rain. Its name still carries the idea of a small hill, while the lost chapel and marshy ground around Kilruskin suggest a place where people marked holy things, boundaries and memory. Whether fortress, court hill or natural knoll, it remains visible enough to stop a walker and ask what it was doing when the road first passed it.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Knowe as Natural Feature (period Unknown). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
