What is recorded here

Some architectural fragments including the base of a finial-cross (WX050-011006-) and a medieval graveslab are in the graveyard (WX050-011005-) at Fethard. The graveslab (dims 1.49m x 0.32-0.52m) has an incised cross with fleur-de-lys terminals and there is an inscription carved in lombardic lettering which is written in French. It commemorates Thomas de Ancayne on its chamfered edge (Hore 1900-11, vol. 4, 317-8). The inscription reads: Thomas de Ancayne gist. Dieu de son Almc ait merci. Amen. This may be Bishop Thomas Denne, who died in 1400 (Colfer 2004, 51, Fig. 35B) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of uplaod: 12 February, 2014
