What is recorded here

A house is depicted on the Down Survey barony map (1656-8) of Forth barony at Ballytory (19), but the castle (WX048-042----) is not. According to the terrier or commentary of the Down Survey parish map of Tacumshin in NLI (ms 725; microfilm P 7384; N 6380) there is a slate house at Ballytory, although the castle is not mentioned (Hore 1949, 28). If this is not the castle then its location is not known. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 27 March, 2014

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
