An inquisition at Wexford in 1618 found that at the time of his death in 1617 William Browne of Mulrankin (WX047-031----) owned a water mill amongst other property together with three carucates (townlands) at Ballyfistlane (Ballycushlane), which was the manor of Lady’s Island parish (Brooks 1950, 118). A mill is marked on the Down Survey (1656-8) barony map of Forth at Ballyhitt and Coldblow (3) where William Browne owned 68 acres in 1640 (Simington 1953, 305). A mill is marked on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map just S of Kisha bridge with a N-S stream c. 30m to the W, but it cannot be certain that it is on the site of the older mill.
