Mac Leighim (1920, 135) records the local tradition of a convent of nuns at ‘the old town’ of Allenstown, but there are no other references to it, and its location cannot be identified. The old town may have been the cluster of four houses marked on the Down Survey parish map (1656-8) of St. Iberius’ parish in NLI (ms 725; P7384; N6380) at Allenstown.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
