According to the Book of Survey and Distribution Walter Roche owned 120 acres at Orristown in Kilmacree parish in 1640 (Simington 1953, 300) and the Down Survey map of Forth barony (1656-8) shows a water mill as the only feature at Orristown. A corn mill is shown on the 1840 and 1940 eds of the OS 6-inch map, but it cannot be demonstrated that the earlier mill would be at the same location.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
