What is recorded here

There is a tradition that the mill recorded as the property of Joan de Vallence at Bannow in 1307 (Hore 1900-11, vol. 4, 452-3) was in the same field as Brandane church (WX045-047----), in the valley of a small E-W stream (O’Broin 1921, 121), but there is no evidence of any structure, and its precise location cannot be known. The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
