What is recorded here

A circular granite basin (ext. diam. 0.92-0.94m; int. diam. 0.48-0.51m; D 0.23m), possibly an unfinished font, is set in the ground on the site of the church of Carrick (WX045-036001-). There is no evidence of a drain-hole, and the flat upper surface of the rim (Wth c. 0.2m) has 8 or 9 shallow hollows (diam. 0.12-0.16m; D 0.03m). The purpose of the hollows is not known, but it may be connected to the quarrying and carving of the stone. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 22 July, 2013
