Archaeological monitoring (01E0047) of topsoil stripping on a development site c. 750m W of the W shore of the South Slob of Wexford harbour identified several areas of archaeological activity (Elder 2003), each of which was fully excavated (02E0606). This is site 3 and consisted of a group of eight pits (dims c. 0.25m to 1.5m x 0.7m; D 0.22m) that contained prehistoric pottery and lithic material. A total of 64 sherds of pottery, including some that may be Neolithic, were recovered, and ard-marks were recorded in the vicinity of the pits as well as post-medieval features. The ditch-barrow (WX042-089----) is c. 60m to the S and the ditch-barrow (WX042-090----) is c. 90m to the N. (McLoughlin 2004, 517; McLoughlin 2007, 11-13; McLoughlin et al. 2012, 164).
