A castle is indicated on the Down Survey parish map of Kildavin at Fardystown (1655-8) in the National Library of Ireland (ms 725, microfilm P 7384, N 6380), and the terrier, or commentary, describes a ‘waste ruined castle at Fardestowne’. According to the book of Survey and Distribution Robert Rossiter owned 171 acres at Fardystown in 1641 (Simington 1953, 301), and traditionally it is thought to have been built by the Rossiters of Rathmacknee (WX042-029002-) (Jeffrey 1979, 18). The precise location is not known.
