What is recorded here

Located on a gently undulating shelf in the valley of the N-S Corock River, with the meandering stream c. 200m to the E at the closest point. A magnetic gradiometer survey (20R0129) over an extensive area confirmed the existence of the moated site (WX040-095----), and also recognised the drains of a field system directly related to it extending off to the N and E which covers about 2.5 ha (c. 7 acres). The fields are generally rectangular (dims c. 30m x c. 20m to c. 60m x c. 50m) defined by single ditches and with regimes of cultivation ridges usually confined to individual fields. These fields merge into larger rectangular fields usually defined by double ditches further to the N and E that are depicted on the 1839 edition of the OS 6-inch map.
