A windmill is marked on a Down Survey (1656-8) barony and parish map of St. Peter’s parish (NLI, ms 715, V, 1) at Newtown and the unknown Carrow Parkes, which is probably Whitemill. A circular feature described as an ‘Old Windmill’ is marked on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map at Whitemill South. It is situated on a broad hill with the SW-NE Bishop’s Water stream c. 170m to the S. It is not visible in a small open grass-covered space in a housing estate on Whitemill Rd.
