Situated on a slight E-facing slope. This is the parish church of Carnagh within a rectangular graveyard (dims. c. 55-70m E-W; c. 55m N-S) defined by earthen banks. According to a Visitation by Thomas Ram, the Protestant bishop of Ferns, in 1615 John Alcock was the rector, and the church and chancel were in repair (Hore 1900-11, vol. 6, 270). Robert Leigh writing in 1684 described it as in ruins (Hore 1858-9, 454). The church is a rectangular building (ext. dims. 13.6m E-W; 7.05m N-S) with ivy-covered walls surviving almost to roof level (H 2-2.5m generally; T 0.85m) and with undressed quoins. There is a rectangular window with two lights in the E gable and a smaller window in the W gable. The single doorway (Wth 1.15m), now repaired with brick, is towards the W end of the N wall.
