What is recorded here

Marked as a D-shaped embanked enclosure (ext. dims c. 45m NE-SW; c. 40m NW-SE) bisected by a N-S laneway on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map where it is overlain by or cut by the perimeter of ringfort (WX029-004002-) at SE. It is located on a S-facing slope and the lane is still extant. A circular enclosure (diam. c. 50 m) defined by an earthen bank is visible on aerial photographs (GSIAP, S 381-2) taken c. 1977. The bank is now (1988) removed but it is visible as a vegetation change (Wth c. 4m) W of the laneway forming a D-shaped, grass-covered area (int. dims c. 40m N-S; c. 17m E-W). Rath site (WX029-004002-) immediately to the SE cut across this site. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload/revision: 1 Auguste, 2012
