St. Peters Church — Pullingstown Big

Located in a slight fold on a W-facing slope with the headwaters of a small NE-SW stream just S of the graveyard. The present Church of Ireland church was erected in 1815 as the centre of an ecclesiastical district of Monart carved out of Templeshanbo parish (Lewis 1839, vol. 2, 385), but it was the site of an older church, locally called Kilsthorne. The grass-covered foundations of an earlier building (12.5m E-W; 4.5m N-S) are inside the S boundary of the subrectangular graveyard (dims. c. 100m NW-SE; c. 80m NE-SW) defined by a stone-faced earthen bank. Some cut stone, probably from a pointed doorway, was recorded from the graveyard in the 1940s (SMR file) but it could not be identified.
