Kilcomb Church (in ruins) — Ballyduff (scarawalsh By., Kilcomb Ed)

Situated on a NE-facing slope between two NW-SE spurs of the N-S ridge of Slieveboy Hill. There is a NW-SE stream c. 130m to the NE. This is the parish church of Kilcomb within a triangular graveyard (dims c. 70m N-S; c. 60m E-W). According to a Visitation by Thomas Ram, the Protestant bishop of Ferns, in 1615 Richard Turner was the priest, but the condition of the church is not recorded (Hore 1900-11, vol. 6, 274). The church is a rectangular building (int. dims 16.75m E-W; 5m N-S) of clay-bonded walls (H c. 1m) with a lot of quartz stones. No features are visible apart from a vertical joint in the S wall towards the E end. The structure is divided into two cells (W cell: int. dim. 12.3m E-W) created by an inserted wall (Wth 0.7m) with a communicating gap (Wth 0.75m) at the S end. There are at least two headstones within the church, dated 1799 and 1819.
