Church in Nure OR Lilliput

Monument recorded in the Ordnance Survey Memoranda books as ‘in the townland of Nure in the parish of Dysart there is an old church in ruins, respecting which I could obtain no information’ (SMR File). The Ordnance Survey memoranda also records in 1837 that the OS ‘marked some church ruins in Dysart townland close to the glebe & ⅛ mile south of Dysart House, but I do not known of any Ecc.[lesiastical] ruins in Lilliput or Nure’ (SMR File). The Ordnance Survey memoranda books records the following account given by O’Connor who states that ‘I can give this definition of the site of the ruins of the old church which I have stated to be in Nure townland in the parish of Dysart. In that part of the townland of Nure called Laputa in Dysart parish, there is standing part of a church ruins about 7 feet high, 4 long and nearly 4 wide, with an old burial place adjoining which is not now in use. It is situate about 18 perches from Lough Ennell and with respect to Rochfort lies about SW of it’ (OS Memoranda 1838, 81). The site of this church was visited by the ASI in 1983 and was described as following; ‘No remains of the church at its location can be found.
