In 1982 the ASI recorded the presence of a semi-circular flanker abutting the SE corner of the tower house (WM030-112----) which may be the remains of a flanker belonging to a possible bawn of the castle now mainly destroyed. This bawn wall may have had four circular flanking towers and could have been added on to the tower house (WM030-112----) in the 17th century when a three-storey high building was added on to the W face of the tower house.
