Barrow — bowl-barrow in Knockdomny

Situated on top of a hill with commanding views of the surrounding countryside. Fitzpatrick (2004, 171) has suggested that this bowl-barrow on the summit of Knockdomny Hill is the most likely location of 'Tulach Mic Amhalghaidh' [Tullymagawly] which was the inauguration place of the Magawley clan. In 1579 and 1599 the townland of Knockdomny was recorded as the inauguration place of the chief of the Mic Amhalghaidh (ibid.). Monument consists of a small circular mound (top diam. c. 5m; base diam. 10m; H c. 2m) of earth and stones enclosed by a shallow fosse (Wth c. 2m; ext. D c. 0.35m) with external bank which is destroyed at E. There is some evidence of recent disturbance on the summit of the mound. A limestone flag is visible on the summit. The summit of this mound was used by the Ordnance Survey as an OD station for the spot height of 515 ft on 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. No antiquity is depicted at this location on the 1837 ed.
