Situated on a N-facing slope of quite a steep ridge, in gently undulating pasture. Settlement cluster (WM030-123----) lies c. 15m to NW. Annotated ‘Earthwork’ on Larkin’s 1808 map of Co. Westmeath (NLI, MS 46,580). Depicted on the revised 1910 ed. OS 25-inch map as a small coppice of trees. Levelled monument described in 1979 as no surface remains visible. There are numerous rock outcrops across this area and perhaps the earthwork was situated on one of these. A number of tree stumps can be seen forming an arc against the SE side of a field wall running NE-SW, which would correspond to the small coppice of trees depicted on the 1910 OS map. Levelled monument is visible today on Digital Globe aerial photography as a roughly circular-shaped cropmark (approx. dims. 22m NW-SE; 21m NE-SW).
