What is recorded here

The files of the National Museum of Ireland records that in June 1940 human remains were discovered in the course of military excavations close to the Broadcasting Station at Moydrum in Athlone (Cahill & Sikora 2011, vol. 2, 522). The site was a gravel ridge, and human remains were discovered at a depth of 1.5m below ground level. No grave structure or associated artefacts were found in the vicinity of the remains, and as they had been disturbed upon discovery, it was not possible to ascertain their original disposition. The site was not visited but the remains (1940:70) were acquired by the Museum (NMI File). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 08 December 2010
