St. Mary's C of I church located in the centre of Athlone which was built in 1826-7 (Murtagh 1994, 10) replacing the 17th century church (WM029-042021-) that was located immediately to the S of the present church. There are four 17th century wall memorials (WM029-042025----; WM029-042026----; WM029-042027----; WM029-042028-) located inside the C of I church. The 19th century church stands in the W quadrant of a rectangular shaped graveyard (WM029-042022-) enclosed by a stone wall. The E section of graveyard wall incorporates part of the 16th/17th century town walls of Athlone. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 29 November 2013
