The precise location of a watermill mentioned in a seventeenth century land grant to Robert Dillon of Cannorstown has not been identified. In 1612 Robert Dillon was granted a watermill in the townland of Carrick which contained '12 houses, a castle (WM026-052002-), a water-mill, and 1 plowland' (Cal. pat. rolls Ire., Jas I, 228). In 1621 Robert Dillon of Cannorstown surrendered to the Crown lands including 2 watermills in Carrick (Cal. pat. rolls Ire., Jas I, 513). In the same year the castle and lands of Carrick including '2 water mills' were granted to Sir William Parsons (ibid.). The corn mill marked as 'Carrick Mill' on the current ed.
