Outlined — Anneville or Rathduff

Situated on a small rise, in gently undulating pasture, with good views in all directions. Bivallate monument described in 1971 as a roughly circular-shaped area (dims. 47.7m N-S; 46.3m E-W) enclosed by a bank and external fosse. The substantial earthen bank has slight traces of an internal stone facing at ESE and has small gaps at NW, NNE and E. The fosse is wide, deep and U-shaped. The entrance (Wth at top 5m; Wth at base 2m) is at SSE but there is no definite trace of a causeway. The interior rises from the perimeter towards the centre and there are several slight depressions within. Monument further described in 1976 as having an outer earthen bank from W-N-E and which encompasses a larger area at SE, corresponding to the depiction of this monument on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map. In 1971, a small enclosure had been noted in the larger area with quarrying activity noted within its interior. There is still evidence of this quarrying on the monument exterior from E-SE. The 1976 field description also mentions a house site in the E quadrant.
