What is recorded here

Situated on a slight rise, in gently undulating pasture, with good views to S, incorporated into a woodland plantation on the estate lands of Lunestown Demesne. Annotated ‘Fort’ on the 1837 OS Fair Plan map. Monument described in 1971 as a roughly circular-shaped area enclosed by a bank best preserved at S and almost reduced to a scarp (H 1.7m) elsewhere. The scarp may have been modified during tree planting. There is no fosse or entrance visible. The interior has a slight N-facing slope and has low banks and humps of earth and stone which may be a result of tree planting. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien. Date of upload: 03 September 2019
