What is recorded here

Situated on top of a rise, on the E side of a hill, in rough pasture and scrub, with good views to N, E and SE. Ringfort (WM024-102----) lies c. 150m to SE. Monument described in 1971 as a roughly circular-shaped area enclosed by an earthen bank, a shallow fosse, an outer bank and shallow external fosse with possible entrance gap (Wth at top 4.6m; basal Wth 1.7m) at E. A modern gap is visible at NNW. The inner bank is best preserved from W-N-SE and much disturbed from SE-S-W where a modern stone field fence has been constructed outside it. The outer bank is visible from NW-N-E, although it is not concentric with the inner because it has an angle at NE which extends in almost a straight line from NE-E. The remains of a low radial bank crosses the intervening space between the two enclosing banks at N with a gap at either end. A house site (WM024-101001-) is visible within the N quadrant and a second possible house site is visible in the S quadrant. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien.
