An old roadway which now survives as a hollow-way leading into the 17th century artillery fort (WM024-004001-) is depicted on George Story's sketch map of Ballymore 1691 (Story 1693, 318). The site of a medieval church (WM024-005----) is located 70m to the west, with an Anglo-Norman motte (WM024-004----) located at the northern end of the roadway. A circular castle (WM024-182----) is located 230m to the south of the road while the clustered settlement of Ballymore is located at the southern end of the roadway. Described in 2009 as 'The traces of a 'hollow-way' marking the original route from the village (WM024-178----) to the fort (WM024-004001-) are visible to the north of the church (WM024-005----)'(Report on the Battlefield of Ballymore Co. Westmeath 2009, 11). An aerial photograph of the church and graveyard clearly shows the roadway (WM024-004002-) depicted in Story's 1691 sketch running as a linear feature through the field to the east of the church and graveyard (CUCAP BDU 64).
