What is recorded here

Situated on a low rise, in low-lying and gently undulating pasture with good views in all directions. Monument described in 1977 as a subrectangular-shaped area (33m NW-SE; 32m NE-SW) enclosed by an earthen bank, an intervening fosse and an outer bank. The inner bank is very low and is best preserved on the S and W sides. An intervening fosse is visible. The outer bank is low and is much degraded in several places. The interior is uneven with a rise towards the centre where there is a house site (WM023-063001-). A very low curved bank is also visible within the interior and may represent the remains of a second house site. Outline of moated site clearly visible on oblique aerial photograph taken 1969 which shows second moated site (LI023-066----) 335m to SE (CUCAP AYR064). Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien. Date of upload: 29 July 2019
