What is recorded here

Situated on a rise, in gently undulating pasture, with good views in all directions. Not depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map or the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map. Monument described in 1972 as an oval-shaped area (dims. 35m N-S; 23.4m E-W) enclosed by a bank with the remains of an external fosse. The bank has been reduced to a scarp from W-WNW and from ENE-E-ESE. The fosse is visible from WSW-W-NNW. The original entrance is not recognisable. The S and NE sectors of the monument have been quarried. The surviving areas of the interior have a gentle E-facing slope with some rock outcrop. A short earthen bank (dims. 6m E-W; 0.5m N-S; H 0.3m) is located in the S quadrant. A short section of bank extends from the exterior of the monument at SW and N. A stone wall running E-W transects the S side. Monument is barely visible as a roughly oval-shaped tree-planted area on Digital Globe aerial photography. Compiled by Alison McQueen, Vera Rahilly and Caimin O’Brien. Date of upload: 05 July 2019
