Partially hachured — Rathtrim

Situated on gentle NE-facing slope near the top of a gently rising, yet prominent hill. Ringforts (WM018-046----, WM018-048---- and WM018-047----) lie c. 80m to NW, c. 110m to S and c. 180m to SW, respectively. Depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map as a subrectangular-shaped earthwork intersected at NW by a townland boundary running NE-SW. Depicted on the revised 1913 ed. OS 25-inch map as a roughly oval-shaped earthwork intersected by a trackway at NW which also serves as a townland boundary. Monument described in 1972 as the much disturbed remains of a bivallate, roughly oval-shaped area (dims. 26m NE-SW; 24m NW-SE) enclosed by two widely spaced banks of earth and stone with no definite trace of an intervening fosse. The inner bank has the remains of an internal and external stone revetment. It is much disturbed from N-E, but a number of large stones which appear to have formed the outer revetment remain in-situ. The inner bank is truncated by a trackway running NE-SW along the NW side. The outer bank survives from NE-E-ESE and a short portion is present at W, where the entrance may have been. On the ESE it forms a very slight slope or scarp and the upper edge is deliberately set in stone. A small mound between these banks at N is of unknown significance. The interior is occupied by the remains of three possible house sites (WM018-049001-). The low remains of a short linear bank extend from the inner bank at E and a similar, but slightly longer bank extends from the inner bank at SSE. A low, broad grass-covered bank extends from the S end of the longer bank toward the modern field fence at W. A broad, modern stone wall truncates the monument from W-N-NNE and no trace of the enclosure is visible on the NW side.
