Situated on a slight natural rise surrounded by gently undulating grassland. The townland boundary with Paddinstown Upper runs along the boundary of the site at W & S. Annotated as ‘Site of Castle’ on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. No surface remains visible of levelled castle at location marked on 1911 ed.OS map. The location of the 'Site of Castle' marked on the revised 1911 map differs from the location marked on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map (approx. ITM Co-ords 627723/757314). On the latter map the castle site is indicated with a dotted circle located W of a circular curving field boundary. This would place the castle site approx. 50m E of its current location on the 1911 6-inch OS map.
However, to the W of the roadway and the site of the castle there is a low rectangular earthwork (approx. dims. 10m x 7m) with some possible earthworks to the N of it which may mark the site of the castle. This earthwork is located at ITM Co-ords 627601/757302.
