The files of the National Museum of Ireland records that in November 1937 human remains were discovered during quarrying operations near Robinstown, Mullingar, Co. Meath (Cahill & Sikora 2011, vol. 2, 522-3). The discovery, which was reported in the Cork Examiner, consisted of part of a human skeleton in a poor state of preservation. The remains of a horse were apparently also found in the quarry. According to the report, the remains were six feet under the surface. The quarry was stated to be located close to a ringfort. There are several townlands called 'Robinstown' in Co. Westmeath. The report suggests that the site in question here is in the same locality as De Lacy's Castle, Rathconnell, east of Mullingar. This information identifies the townland as Robinstown in the barony of Delvin on the OS 6-inch sheet number 8. The SMR records three ringforts in this townland (WM008-084/085/086) but it is not possible to say which of these is the one mentioned in the report.
