Prehistoric site — lithic scatter in Clonkeen (moygoish By.)

Site of a possible prehistoric lithic scatter on the N bank of the Inny River in the townland of Clonkeen, in the parish of Street, barony of Moygoish, the shoreline of Lough Derravaragh lies 2km to the E. Mesolithic habitation site (WM006-065----) and lithic scatter (WM006-025----) 1.5km and 1.7km to the NE respectively, Mesolithic lithic scatter (WM006-067----) 1.8km to ENE and second Mesolithic lithic scatter (WM006-068----) 2km to E. Located adjacent to a cut-away bog, in an area where dredged material from the adjacent Inny River was deposited in the 1960s. At this location the Inny River forms the townland boundary with Lackanwood, the parish boundary with Lackan and the barony boundary with Corkaree. The townland boundary of Derradd marked by a disused drainage ditch lies 95m to W while the townland boundary of Clonava indicated by a stream running into the Inny River is visible c. 100m to the E. The lithic material which includes chert blades/flakes (22 in total) have been collected by Mr. Pat Kerrigan over the past 20 years and was recently reported to Ms. Melanie Mc Quade, Heritage Officer, Westmeath County Council and Ms. Isabella Mulhall of the National Museum of Ireland.
