What is recorded here

The medieval mills of Gilbertstown which belonged to Thomas Nugent may have been located in the area where the Corn & Tuck Mill are depicted on the 1837 ed. OS 6-inch map. In 1647 a fine of £15 was levied on a group of mills in Co. Westmeath to pay Captain Ignatius Nugent of the Irish Confederate Army. The sum of 9s 4d. was levied on 'Thomas Nugent, or same, two mills at Gilbertstown' (Cal. S.P. Ire., 624). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 6 December 2016
