This font came to the attention of the National Museum of Ireland in 1964. It was described as ‘an old stone font which was found near an old religeen in the townland of Balisland, near Shillelagh, Co. Wicklow’ which is ’14 ins. in width, 20 ins. in length and 7½ ins. in height, externally, and 11 ins. in width, 16 ins. in length and 5 ins. in depth, internally … rather round-shaped in the front on the outside and straight on each side, and the back seems to have been pulled away from a wall, …wide at top and rather round in bottom, with a hole at one side of bottom. It has no inscription or decoration on it, just plain stone’ (OPW file 1964). The font, which was originally located at a burial ground (WI046-003----), was moved in 1964 . The font has since been moved and its present location is unknown. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 17 October 2012
