What is recorded here

Situated on level ground in gently undulating terrain, in woodland with marshy area immediately to the W. A D-shaped enclosure (int. dims. 45.5m NW-SE; 34m NE-SW) defined by a flat-bottomed fosse (D 2-3m) which narrows from the NE (Wth 10m) to the SW (Wth 5m); on the straight NW side it is masked by the field boundary but the inner lip of the fosse is clearly identifiable. The external earthen bank (H 1.1m) narrows from the E (Wth 7.75m) to the S (Wth 3m), and is not visible at the W or N. There is a gap (Wth 2m) at the E but no corresponding causeway over the fosse. The interior is level and featureless. A stream flows through the fosse at the SW. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 December 2008
