Price (1967, 472) recorded that there 'was an old road which led southwards from the old chapel in Kilpatrick (WI036-023----) along the west sdie of Ballyrichard into Templerainy (WI040-017001-) and Coolboy. The trace of it is still visible on the townland boundary between Ballyrichard and Johnstown. The tradition is that King James went by this road to Shelton on his way from Dublin to Duncannon after the Battle of the Boyne'. The route of the road is shown on the 1838 ed. OSi 6-inch map where it is annotated in two places as 'King James' Road'. Several townland boundaries intersect along the route of the possible medieval road and it appears to run through the centre of a possible deserted medieval settlement (WI041-003----) in the townland of Ballyrichard which is annotated 'Oldtown Field' on the 1838 ed. OSi 6-inch map.
