Described by Price (1949, 152) as shown on the ‘Barony Map’ and ‘presumably’ the castle of John de Valle, who held half a knight’s fee in Rathothell in or before 1303. There is also mention that in 1910 Mr. Twamley, of Rathtoole House, informed Lord Walter Fitzgerald that there were the remains of a castle on his farm some years previously.
