What is recorded here

Limestone 17th-century wayside cross-shaft of the O'Toole family (H 0.78m; Wth 0.26m; T 0.15m), now in the porch of Knockarigg House. The inscriptions, on two opposite faces, read-'... LL O'TOOLEOF CNOCKIRGG AND HIS WIFE IOANE CULLEN PRA ... S ...' and '... O BOTH OURE SOULES FOR AS YOU ARE SOE WEARE WEE AND AS [WEE AR] E SOE SHALL YOU [BEE]'. One of the remaining faces is blank and the other depicts the Instruments of the Passion. (Fitzgerald 1903-5, 249-50) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 December 2008
