What is recorded here

The Ordnance Survey Letters (1838/40) noted 'A little to the NE still of Carrignogceann, on the Glencormuck Commons may be seen several little mounds of ancient appearance, but they are not recognised as moates by the peasantry, tho' they say that they have stood here since Noahs flood' (O' Flanagan 1928, 21). The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
