What is recorded here

Unlocated well in the townland of Ballylerane. According to Lynch (1994, 642) there is a holy well known as ‘The White Well’ in the townland of Ballylerane that is mentioned in the 1930s Irish Folklore Commission, Schools Manuscript Collection (IFC S 468: 73). The folklore manuscripts recorded that ‘the water of the well had curative properties. Water collected using different methods to effect different cures. Not used for household purposes’ (Lynch 1994, 642). Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 22 January 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.

The map shows the centre of the officially named townland area, not the monument. The government record does not identify the exact monument point.
