Located in pasture on a plateau on the W side of the NNW-SSE Ballymacart river valley with the stream c. 230m to the E. A castle on land owned by Philip Rowe in 1641 is recorded in the Civil Survey of 1654-6 (Simington 1942, 57). It is not visible at ground level.
