Archaeological testing (97E0463) inside the line of the town wall (WA031-040010-) at Davitts Quay found the ground largely robbed by clay-pits, two of which cut an in-filled ditch (Wth c. 3m; D c. 1m) that appeared to run E-W but had no associated bank. It produced few finds and is probably a field boundary pre-dating the town. (Pollock 1998c; 1998d, 7)
