What is recorded here

Situated on top of limestone outcrop that slopes down steeply to the S and W (H c. 15m). An enclosure (WA030-015001-) surrounds the opening (dims. c. 15m N-S; c. 10m E-W) to Ballynamintra cave caused by the collapse of part of the roof. Soils covering the opening were investigated by R. J. Ussher in 1881 and descirbed as a midden (1885-6, 362), and most of the excavation was around this opening. (Ussher 1885, 362-5) Ussher, R. J. (1885) A description of objects found in the kitchen middens of raths, JRSAI 17, 362-68. Date of upload/revision: 11th August, 2011. Compiled by: Michael Moore.
