A contemporary description of the achievements of the first Earl of Cork (Ryland 1824, 343-4) records that he had built two bridges over the W-E River Bride, one of which was at Tallow, and a Bateman map of 1716 shows that the river was then bridged at this point. The present bridge is a wide, two-lane bridge of eleven arches that was built as a unit. The arches have dressed voussoirs and there are break-waters on the W, upstream, side. The bridge could date from the beginning of the 18th century, and is probably the bridge shown on the Bateman map.
