Located on a grass-covered coastal promontory jutting S (max. dims. c. 120m N-S; c. 90m E-W) from the mainland. It is defended on the landward side by the remains of a fosse (Wth 5m; int. D 0.2m; ext. D 0.5m; L c. 40m) with a central causeway (Wth 2.7m). The remains of an inner bank (Wth c. 4m) which were recorded by Westropp (1906, 254-5; 1914-16, 210) are now removed.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
