Situated in pasture on a gentle W-facing slope with a N-S stream c. 240m to the W. It is described as the remains of a large building '150ft by 90ft' (dims. c. 45.7m x 27.4m) traditionally thought to be the site of a monastery of the Knights Templar (Smith 1746, 73; Ryland 1824, 301-2). It is not visible at ground level, but there are some fragments of earthen field banks visible.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
