Situated on a knoll of rock outcrop in a low-lying landscape. Described as 'an old stump of a castle' which was owned by Garret Fitzgerald of Dromana (WA029-021001-) in 1640 (Simington 1942, 70); it was still extant in 1841 (O'Flanagan 1929, 31). It is not visible now at ground level.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
